The Cubs rode a scrappy, average, cheap, internal option out. He is going on 31, regressing and took them to arbitration. That should have been his clue he was moving on. I was all for dealing him two years ago. The team was contending and he was popular with some fans. But I understood they had no replacement and would have costed more in FA. No, You will get no disagreement from me on Theriot.

We maybe need better glasses. His rate of pay greatly exceeds his level of productivity. I expect he gets flipped numerous times in the next few years. He's at best a utility player and every team knows that. A scary thought or two reading about DeWitt and his D being inferior to Theriot's. Yikes is that possible?

I find it interesting we have pretty much the same players, taking away age, future projections, money made and what side of the plate they hit. The hope is Blake (24) improves his game a bit. Although, even at 24-25, much of his developement is in place. Theriot (30) is at an age where this is what you get. I could not agree more about your point on Theriot's pay level/production and being flipped.

UZR shows DeWitt as -0.6 at 2B, and Theriot at -3.0, and DeWitt is supposedly a better defender at 3B, his natural position.

Still, he's a better overall player, and about 5 or 6 years younger, so he could prove to be a .270 hitter with 10-12 HR power.

I haven't looked at Dewitt's numbers but I don't think he hits well enough to be a 3rd baseman.

He is a career 10.8 UZR/150 at 3B, though he was a -4.9 in 2009, in which he only played 14 games. The year before, he was +11.9.

His bat may not necessarily fit there, but the glove does, and I'm not a big proponent of playing guys by where their bats fit best. I don't care what positions the offense comes from, as long as it's there and the defense isn't in shambles.

You could say Todd Walker II but better glove even at 2B.

No problem we stick Soriano at 2B with a butterfly net in place of glove. Hitting at second and D at 3B. LOL.
